As the newest member of the Sunday School Team, the most important lesson I have learned over the past few months has been to take time to build relationships. When on church staff, it is easy to get caught up in the day to day business of the work that has been set before you. They are all good things -things that God has called you to accomplish. But, so much to do that there is no time left to build relationships.
My first lesson came in Rio on mission trip. We were all on a bus, rushing to get to the area where we had been serving all week. Suddenly one of our leaders got off the bus and spent time with someone they had previously ministered to, holding their baby. I was amazed, while this woman of God, who was always so focused on completing work, held this child I realized…that was what ministry was really about…building relationships and taking time to show the love of Christ.
That is what I have also seen through those working here at the TBC. They are loving people who are taking time, through busy schedules, to build relationships.
“If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all the mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.” I Corinthians 13:2-3
